Bloomsburg Falls to Wilmington in Baseball

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped their 2007 home opener to Wilmington College, 8-3 on Tuesday. The loss drops the Huskies record on the year to 5-13.
In the first, Wilmington jumped out to a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half on the inning, the Huskies struck back after Matt Robinson (York/Red Lion) and Vinnie James (Bristol/Bristol) both singled. After Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) grounded out into a fielder's choice that advanced James to third, Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport) reached base on an error. James scored on the play, putting Bloomsburg on the board, down 2-1.
The Huskies would remain scoreless for the next five innings as Wilmington built up a comfortable lead. Wilmington scored two runs in the fourth and three runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead over the Huskies to 7-1.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Robinson lead off and doubled to left field. He would later advance to third on a wild pitch and then score after Ward grounded out to second base.
Down 8-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Tony Donofry (Council Rock North/Newtown) led off the inning with a single, then advanced to second on a throwing error. After moving to third, Donofry scored on a balk by Wilmington's pitcher.
Robinson led the Huskies going 3-for-4 on the day with two runs scored.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday when they host East Stroudsburg in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
